Riverglen Farm

Riverglen Farm is 112 acre property in Ottawa's Greenbelt, certified biodynamic by Demeter Canada. We are operating a 25 share CSA for the second year, and we will be initiating market sales this year. Three highland cows, half a dozen Shetland sheep and a flock of 40 layers provide delicious Biodynamic compost. The situation would be ideal for someone who might want to work in the garden one or two days a week. Help is especially appreciated on harvest day. Volunteers get to return home with a bag of goodies from the farm.

Volunteer Opportunity: Bunching Onions CSA

Tucker House

Tucker House Renewal Centre is a retreat and environmental learning centre in Rockland, Ontario, thirty minutes East of downtown Ottawa. Tucker House is a registered charity with a focus on promoting sustainable living through a variety of environmental programs. Tucker House programs include the Organic CSA, a March Break environmental camp, summer nature camps, seasonal nature walks, Historic tours and teas, and environmental workshops such as Green Energy and Straw Bale construction. The Tucker House property consists of a Georgian manor built in 1870 with 30 acres of land including organic gardens, fields, a meadow, beaver marsh, old-growth pine forest, and an on-site quarry. There are several outbuildings on the property including barns, as well as an outdoor swimming pool.

Bunching Onions CSA

Our "Bunching Onions" Community Supported Agriculture program supports 35 half-shares, plus market garden produce.  We cultivate three vegetable gardens and a raspberry patch on approximately ½ acre of land.  We have recently built a greenhouse and also have a tractor for occasional use.  We are not certified organic but we have been practicing organic methods since the gardens were established in 1999.

Volunteer Opportunity

Bunching Onions CSA is looking for a part-time intern for the 2008 season.  We are looking for someone who has a car and can commute to Rockland at least twice per week (no weekends.)  You will be involved in all the aspects of the gardens, from greenhouse sowing, to transplanting, to direct sowing, weeding, composting, staking, harvesting, preparing the vegetables for the customers, fall cleaning of the gardens, etc.  The candidate may be asked to make at least one delivery per week on a set delivery day to Ottawa from mid-June to the end of September.  The candidate must be physically fit and capable of working without supervision.  Our season starts in May and runs until mid October.
